"As an undergrad, I spent most of my time in the audio and video editing suites at the Digital Media Center for the Arts. What I learned there not only helped me find employment after college, but I also made connections with people who I still stay in touch with. We continue to work on projects together and I feel very fortunate to have been part of the DMCA."
Jonathan Zalben explores the intersection between interactive art and music composition. Bringing live instruments and recorded sound into a space, Zalben designs pieces where the audience is the performer and the creator is the architect. Zalben studied at Juilliard Pre-College and received a BA from Yale University and a MA from New York University. He has received grants from the New York State Council on the Arts, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, and the National Academy of Sciences. His work has been presented at the Knitting Factory, the Corcoran Gallery, and in 2003 he was in residence at STEIM. His net art collaboration, Compound Pilot, has been shown internationally at galleries in Korea, Argentina, England, and Armenia. Zalben holds a US patent for a muffler design. Zalben's music for film, theater, and television has been shown at Slamdance, SXSW, Tribeca, LA Film Festival, New York International Fringe Festival, and Chicago SketchFest.
